Music and portrait photography in Scotland
I’ve been a bit slow on the updates for the past few weeks as I’ve returned to college to study photography again, but from here on out I should have more work to share. This is from a shoot I did last week with model/actress/singer Claire Marie.
I had a great shoot with Weeping Willow the other week, chatting about horror movies and fighting off swarms of midges. I was trying to do something with a witchy feel, and I was experimenting a bit more with camera movement and the like. I’m far more drawn to images that convey mood than images that are technically perfect these days. I expect I’ll post a few more in the coming weeks.
I’ve been doing some cosplay shoots from time to time with Nicolette McKeown, recently we did a Tomb Raider theme. It’s something I may be doing a bit more of in future.
There’s a local music festival in my hometown called Largs Live which has been growing year on year, bringing free live music to just about every pub in town for a whole weekend. I had intended to go along to some shows purely as an audience member, but apparently I can’t remember how to enjoy music without photographing it so I took some shots anyway. One of the advantages of having a mirrorless camera system like my NEX-6 is that they’re so light it’s no hassle to carry one around even if you haven’t planned to use it. Anyway, I thought I’d share a few shots from the Saturday night:

I was lucky enough to get to shoot The Birthday Massacre in Glasgow last week. The decent lighting on the main stage of The Classic Grand certainly made a nice change from the basement venues my last few gigs have been in. For those ones black and white conversion was necessary due to the red lighting and high noise levels, but I find I’m liking it more and more in general. Something about a grainy monochrome image just seems to capture the energy and mood of a rock show more, in my opinion.
